Scientific Officer – Virology
Our Dublin based client is currently recruiting for Scientific Officer specialising in Virology to join their growing team on a permanent basis.In this role, you will play a critical part in their product testing workflows, ensuring accurate, reproducible, and compliant results across a variety of client projects. This is a lab based role so you will be required to be on site five days per week (Monday-Friday).

Responsibilities

  • Perform cell-based virological assays (TCID50, plaque assays), qPCR, and bacteriophage culture.
  • Handle routine propagation, maintenance, and quantification of viral stocks.
  • Generate, update, and review SOPs, as well as develop new methods for novel microorganisms.
  • Support the Quality Management System to ensure ongoing compliance with ISO 17025 standards.
  • Maintain accurate test records, generate technical client reports, and contribute to scientific literature, blogs, and journal articles.
  • Identify non-conformities, troubleshoot technical issues, and drive continuous improvement within the lab.
  • Manage project timelines effectively while multi-tasking across multiple client accounts.
Requirements
  • Education: Master’s or PhD in Virology.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a commercial laboratory environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) virus stocks, host cell culture, and virus titrations (TCID50, plaque assay).
  • Quality Standards: Familiarity with ISO 17025 (or similar quality management systems) is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong project management, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills.
